Karmic Angels at Edinburgh Fringe Festival 20th August & Mela Festival Leith 2/4th Sept.

On Saturday 20th August 2011, at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, John Lilburn, our Trustee and Strategy Development/Fundraising Coordinator, gave a presentation talk that included video and slides (kindly mixed by Simon Messer of  www.madeirafilms.com ).  Simon also filmed the presentation on the day, which was about the Gambia’s crucial need for support plus the work Karmic Angels has done and are proposing to do during 2011/12. This was a very important presentation, which lasted for about an hour. We aim to show this film presentation in The Gambia, courtesy of GRTS (Gambian Radio and Television Services), which will help promote awareness about our work there and generate influential support. We also aim to distribute the film for viewing to the UK schools that have expressed an interest to us about twinning with our Gambian schools in the run up to the 2012 Olympic Games (this relates to an initiative called ‘Worldclass’, set up by the BBC).  After the presentation, John mingled & chatted, and encouraged people to buy our Gambian items for sale at the venue.  To view the poster, please click on the link below.

The Mela Festival took place over 3 days in Leith (2nd to 4th September 2011) and we had a stall where visitors were  able to sponsor an orphan, buy Gambian items (jewellery, zodiac cards etc) and also have a chance to win a Fiat 500 Super Mini worth nearly £10000 in our fantastic car draw (sponsored by Zurich Insurance through the FSI). John and his friend Reg and Simon helped out over the 2 days  to help raise awareness and very much needed funds for our work in the Gambia.

Karmic Angels African Music Night in Leith Edinburgh – A Fabulous Night!

Karmic Angels had its first African Music Night on Thursday 28th October 2010, which was held in the beautiful city of Edinburgh.

2 DJs from Africa, DJ Gaoussou from Mali and DJ Momo from Morocco played the music throughout the night and gave their time for free in aid of Karmic Angels. Many thanks to Leith FM 98.8fm for their support and The Leith Dockers Club for kindly allowing us the use of their club for free. There was a sponsored head shave in which 3 volunteers had all their glorious locks removed. Thanks go to Gaoussou, Dave (Grisley Adams) and Gregan (The Warrior) who were the unlucky victims to loose their pride and joy but all in the name of charity. Thanks also to Emma Hall Hair Designs who gave their time for free.  Along with the fantastic African music, a star prize raffle was also included. It was a fabulous night, all in aid of the work that Karmic Angels does.

All in all over £500 was raised on the night. This money will be put towards our next school build. Thanks to all who came and supported us.

Lastly please view this and leave your comments please on our interview and our African Music Night video on You Tube. Thanks go to Simon our filmaker who runs Madeira Films who donated his time to making this film for Karmic Angels. Just click  the link below.
