Brikama Medina Gains Malaria Nets To Save Lives
The village of Brikama Medina has a population of around 1500 but has suffered badly through loss of life to children from birth to the age of 5 to malaria. Last year alone over 100 children died from malaria. This to us is so soul destroying. But we have made some difference thanks to Olyset Nets who made us a kind donation of 40 impregnated mosquito nets which we donated to the village (thanks to Thomas Cook also who allowed us to take them free of charge on our flight) and now 120 women and children are safe from the mosquito at night for up to 10 years fantastic.
Since these nets were given out malaria has reduced by around 50% in this village. Success you may say well for all those who have a malaria net that is. Mosquito nets were also distributed to Farato and Busumbala where they too have shown a large reduction in malaria deaths. We alone cannot do everything but now you can do your bit.
JUST a £10 donation can buy a malaria net. These are not the impregnated ones but will still give a family protection when sleeping. So it seems that just a little can make such a difference.
